Data Doers

Tom Hinojosa (HOTQ, Data Doers, Image Makers)
Mr. Hinojosa is an assessment expert at SRI in Menlo Park.

Karenanne Koenig (Data Doers)
Ms. Koenig teaches 8th grade science at H. E. McCracken Middle School in Bluffton, near Beaufort.

Charlie Patton (Data Doers)
Dr. Patton is a software engineer at SRI working remotely from Portland, OR. He contributed to the invention of the graphing calculator and has continued helping evolve handheld devices for education at HP, TI, and SRI.

Cheryl Smith (Data Doers)
Ms. Smith teaches 8th grade science at H. E. McCracken Middle School in Bluffton, near Beaufort.

Deborah Tatar (Co-Principal Investigator and Data Doers)
Dr. Tatar is a researcher at SRI in Menlo Park. Her previous research has been concerned with human-computer interaction and how people come to define appropriate behaviors (including learning and listening behaviors) in different situations.

Lynn Walker (Technology Learning Coordinator, all projects)
Ms. Walker, a former high school science teacher located in Beaufort, is the Technology Learning Coordinator for Project WHIRL.

Wenming Ye (Data Doers)
Mr. Ye is a software engineer at SRI working in Boulder, CO.


HOTQ

Mark Chung (HOTQ)
Mr. Chung is a software engineer at SRI in Menlo Park. He has designed and developed software for math, science, and language education since 1990 and is currently the lead developer on the HOTQ team.

Debbie Smith (HOTQ)
Ms. Smith teaches 5th grade science at Lady's Island Elementary School in Beaufort.

Harry Smith (HOTQ)
Mr. Smith teaches 4th grade science at Lady's Island Elementary School in Beaufort.

Louise Yarnall (Co-Principal Investigator and HOTQ)
Dr. Yarnall is a researcher at SRI in Menlo Park. She specializes in design and implementation of evaluations of educational reform programs, design of assessments of student learning, and management of software development efforts. A former journalist with some training in the visual arts, her background expertise is in student learning in civics, history, reading, and visual representation.

Lynn Walker (Technology Learning Coordinator, all projects)

Image Makers

Catherine Beckham (Image Makers)
Ms. Beckham teaches science (K-5) at Shell Point Elementary School in Beaufort.

Walter Mack (Image Makers)
Mr. Mack is the Director of the Program for Academic and Cultural Enrichment at the Penn Center in Beaufort. He brings WHIRL software to an after-school academic enrichment program for minority students.

Bill Penuel (Principal Investigator and Image Makers)
Dr. Penuel is a researcher at SRI in Menlo Park. He is the Principal Investigator for Project WHIRL and does research on programs designed to enhance students' inquiry abilities.

Jeremy Roschelle (Co-Principal Investigator and Image Makers)
Dr. Roschelle is a Senior Cognitive Scientist at SRI International. His research interests focus on how children learn mathematics and science, the role of collaboration in teaching and learning, and emerging handheld and wireless devices for education.

Connie Sears (Image Makers)
Ms. Sears teaches college prep and honors level biology at Battery Creek High School in Burton, near Beaufort.
